Octo Design Group has the ability to get into the minds of our clients and understand their goals. We do not, and will not, design for design’s sake. Sure, we make pretty things, but we won’t make them unless they will work. We believe in communication. We believe in design for the greater good. Yes, we believe we can make the world better.

Our strength lies in identifying problems and creating solutions. We interview our clients to understand their needs and goals. As designers, we keep an open line of communication with our network of production specialists to find the best way to produce any piece working within time and budget constraints. We work with our clients, their ideas, and goals to create the best solution possible.

We each bring a different expertise to the table. Along with across-the-board commitment and general passion for design and communication – our eagerness to constantly learn, understand, and solve problems makes us a perfect fit.

Wendy Verna, founder of Octo Design Group, worked in several in-house graphics departments, after graduating from Moore College of Art, and quickly began feeling stuck. There was simply not enough variety in the work. So she took matters into her own hands and created Octo Design Group in 1991. The name Octo was chosen because of her experience in illustration, mural art, identity packages, marketing materials and advertising – basically having her hands in all aspects of the commercial art and communication business. Her vast experience continues to contribute to the firm's ability to ease a client through the difficult process of defining, creating or refining their company’s image.

Since moving to Center City Philadelphia in August of 2000, Octo Design Group has continued to grow, adding designers – bringing our full time staff to 4 people – and taking on a wide variety of new projects with clients from Comcast Telecommunications, Izzy & Zoe's Gourmet Deli in University City, The National Constitution Center, Robertson’s Flowers to Victory Refrigeration, AGA Ranges and the entire AGA Food Service Group as well as the South Street Headhouse District.

While Octo may still be considered a small business, we continue to capitalize on our partnerships and alliances. Instead of hiring a full-time copywriter, we choose from a growing list of writers to find the perfect voice for any piece. The same is done with illustrators, photographers, printers, and fabricators. This enables Octo Design Group to not only have the support of a diverse staff but to also keep the work fresh and full of variation.
