Information Design can be defined as the taking of complex information and conveying it to a target audience as clearly as possible. As the economy moves toward an increasing dependence on knowledge, it is critical to first understand the value of the information you possess or have access to; second, to be able to sift through the seas of data to the critical bits; and finally, to communicate something of value to the viewer who has less time, a shorter attention span, and more options.

Information can no longer be conveyed in one medium. The Internet has forced together the worlds of print and moving graphics. TV and the Internet are quickly merging into one. Environmental Graphics has merged graphic design and the worlds of space planning and urban design. Branding is quickly becoming a requirement for everything from a product to a building. The bricks and mortar architect finds itself drawn into the world of multi-media and advertising.

We, as graphic designers, are recognizing our new role and have already established relationships with - among others - illustrators, copywriters, photographers, web and multimedia developers, planners, and architects in the business that continues to grow in importance and recognition -- Information Design.
